Schuelke Law Firm Raises Concern Over Surging Fatal Car Accidents in Texas

Whether a crash involving a car and another vehicle or a car and a pedestrian, deadly collisions are far too common in Texas. In one crash, a young man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Guadalupe County on State Highway 123 North. The man was walking home when he was hit and killed by a gray vehicle in the southbound lane.

Rather than stop and render assistance, the driver of the gray car left the scene of the accident. A reward was posted in hopes of obtaining information leading to the arrest of the driver of the car.

In Lubbock County, yet another crash took the life of one individual and injured two others. A 2022 Chevrolet Equinox was heading south on North County Road 1700. The weather was clear, and the road was dry. The Equinox diver crossed the center line into the north lane, colliding with another vehicle with two occupants.

The Equinox driver and the driver of the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries. The passenger in the other vehicle was transported for medical care but died in hospital.

Why Vehicle Accidents Happen

There are numerous reasons why accidents like this one happen. They include:

  • Negligent driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Texting while driving
  • Driving while drowsy
  • Failure to obey traffic signs and signals
  • DWI/DUI alcohol and/or drugs

There are many reasons why accidents happen. “However, the most important thing to remember is if you have been involved in a crash, contact an experienced car accident attorney. The evidence at the scene of the crash needs to be gathered and preserved as quickly as possible,” explained Austin car accident attorney, Brooks Schuelke, not involved in the two cases mentioned.

What To Do In The Wake Of An Austin Crash

Here is what can be done in the aftermath of a crash, if possible:

  • Call 911
  • Stay at the scene of the crash. It is the law in Texas.
  • If possible, move the vehicle out of harm’s way.
  • Get information from the other individuals involved. This includes insurance and driver’s license information.
  • Make a note of the model, make, license plate number and any other noticeable details. Get a video or pictures if possible.
  • Ask for medical assistance. Injuries do not always make themselves known right away. Keep all medical records, including related expenses.
  • Do not admit to any fault. Speak to an attorney as soon as possible.
  • Inform your insurance company about the crash and mention any injuries sustained.
  • Get a copy of the crash report. Accident reports may be ordered via the Texas Department of Transportation.
  • Contact an attorney as soon as possible.
  • Keep written records of everything relating to the crash, including medical appointments, payments for drugs, rehab or surgery, and car repairs.

“Car accidents are frightening and can mean not just injuries, but missing work and wondering how your bills are going to be paid. We can help you through the confusing maze of legal issues and help you secure compensation for your injuries. Just give us a call. We’re here to help you,” added Austin car accident attorney, Brooks Schuelke.
