Use Photos & Videos To Document Your Personal Injury Claims

A picture isn’t just worth a thousand words; in a personal injury lawsuit, it could be worth thousands of dollars.

The Power of Visual Evidence

For your case, our goal is to best tell your story to an insurance adjuster or a jury. We want them to understand what happened to you and to understand the extent of your injuries and how they affected you.

We can do that with words — that’s like the insurance company or adjuster reading a book. But it’s much more compelling when we can use photos and videos to bring that book alive to become a movie. Photos just make your story more compelling and increases the value of your case.

Photos and videos also help increase the credibility of your claim. It’s one thing for an injured person to say that “before the wreck, I was a regular runner” but it’s an entirely different thing if we can show pictures from the before the wreck of the injured person running a race — anything from a 5k to a marathon – or running with friends.

What to Document

We want to document all aspects of your case. We want photos of the scene of the incident. For car wrecks, we want photos of the vehicles. For dog attack cases, we want photos of the dogs involved. For premises liability cases, we need photos of the dangerous conditions. These photos help tell the story of what happened.

We also want photos and videos that tell the story of how the incident and its injuries affected you. If you have bruising, stitches, a cast or scarring, we want photos of all of that. And we want photos as your injuries progress. Bruises, wounds and other injuries look different over time. Photos every few days or weeks can help tell your story about how the injuries progressed.

We also want documentation of how those injuries affected you. If you had to use a cane to walk or had to use some other medical device, give us a video or photo of you using the cane or device. If you have other limited mobility or limited range of motion, a short video showing that helps tell your story.

Photos from before the incident can be helpful as well. If your injuries force you to miss a favorite hobby, photos or videos of you engaging in those activities before the incident can help tell your story.

We’re not just looking for photos or videos of you. If your injuries prevent you from engaging in some activity that you previously did with a group, such as a regular tennis match or a running group, then we may want a short video from the other participants talking about how active you were before the incident and how you can’t participate (or participate to the same extent) after the incident.

You’re ability to document your case is only limited by your imagination. If you think there is something that is important to your case, think about how you could document that with a photo or video.

Documentation May Be The Easiest Way To Help Your Claim

While you need to be creative about the documentation, documenting your injuries is not hard. Everyone has a smart phone today that can take high quality photos and videos. Make sure you use the phone throughout your claims process. Documenting the claim is the easiest way to help increase the value of your claim.
