Police Officers Are Targets When Parked On The Side Of The Road

I’ve written before about the dangers of being parked on the side of the road.  But perhaps the biggest danger isn’t to every day motorists, but to police officers, who routinely find themselves on the shoulder of roadways.

A recent wreck in Live Oak, near San Antonio, shows how dangerous this can be.  This weekend, the Live Oak officer was parked on the side of the road when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

This needs to be a lesson for all of us.  If you find yourself pulled over for any reason — car maintenance issues, taking a phone call, sick kid — make sure you’re aware of your surroundings.  You are a target for other drivers, and you should take precautions to make sure you and your family are safe.
