Five People Killed After a Head-on Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 110

Car accidents can happen at any time. However, they seem to be a daily event in Texas. Recently five people were killed after a head-on two-vehicle crash on Highway 110.

This highway has a reputation for the high number of motor vehicle accidents that happen each year. Those who live along the route believe that the speed limit is not the problem. The problem is drivers exceeding the limit. It is not the first time that Highway 110 has been shut down to investigate an accident and take survivors to the hospital.

This recent collision involves a Dodge Charger and a Chevrolet Tahoe. According to State Troopers on the scene, it is believed the Dodge was speeding when it hit the Tahoe head-on. Police believe the Dodge was traveling at an excessive speed. The aftermath of the collision left both vehicles unrecognizable, and identifying the deceased was a difficult task.

According to TxDOT, there have been 44 crashes on Highway 110 from Grand Saline to Loop 323 since the start of the year. “Speed kills is an adage heard often,” commented Austin car accident attorney, Brooks Schuelke. “Problem is, it is accurate, and a dismal reminder that our roads are not safe while some drivers choose to flaunt the laws.”

Drivers flaunting the law, because they feel it does not apply to them, or they are driving under the influence, are a societal menace. While there may be laws in place to prohibit driving drunk, driving under the influence of drugs, or not speeding or tailgating, those laws need to be followed to make a difference. Too often, those rules are not being followed and the distressing result of those breaking the law is either seriously injured innocent people or a needless, wrongful death.

“Driving while fatigued is also a serious problem in Texas, as this recent case demonstrates,” added Schuelke. In Coryell County, one man died and another was sent to hospital in a head-on collision. A 58-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2007 GMC 3500 pickup heading north. Another male was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox heading south. The collision took the life of the driver in the Equinox after the GMC driver drifted off to sleep and crossed into its path.

“Despite the enormous volume of evidence showing drinking, speeding, and driving while tired can be deadly, it still happens because people do not think it can happen to them. Sadly though, it can,” said Schuelke.

For those who have been in a car accident and are seriously injured, or have lost a loved one, seek legal representation as soon as possible from a skilled Austin car accident attorney. “I can advise you of your legal rights, explain how a claim works and how the process of seeking compensation can be a benefit to you and your family. My door is open to you,” Schuelke stated.
